Nova Scotia Trip
I just returned from a month-long painting trip to Nova Scotia and Maine. Fellow painter Paul Reuther and I each executed about ten canvasses. In Nova Scotia we were based in the town of West Pubnico, a French-Acadian community about 20 miles south of Yarmouth. We really loved the people and the opportunity to paint the local landscape. These paintings will be posted on this site on the "Nova Scotia" page in about four weeks. On the return, we also painted for several days in Acadia National Park. Paul and I are working on a project that we refer to as "The Studio of the North". This will involve the purchase of real estate in Nova Scotia, that will be the basis for a summer painter's workshop/retreat. Many thanks also to fellow artist Jeanne Staples, for the use of her summer cottage in Pubnico.
Scenes of the Schuylkill Art Show
I am one of several participating artists in a current show at the gallery of Montgomery County Community College in Pottstown, PA. The theme of the show is scenes of the Schuylkill River, and my painting "Solitary Egret" (at right) was awarded first prize for Best in Show. There will be a reception on Friday, October 27, between 5:30 and 7:30 pm; this is actually the final night of the show. I will be present and prints of this painting, published by the Schuylkill River Heritage Area, will be available for purchase. For more information, check out the Schuylkill River Heritage Area website.
Rittenhouse Square Show
I will be exhibiting for the 15th consecutive year in the Rittenhouse Square Fine Arts Show, which is now held in the fall as well as the spring. The upcoming dates are Friday, September 15th through Sunday, September 17th. I will have roughly 30 original oil paintings on exhibit.
Open Studio Event
In conjunction with the Philadelphia Open Studio Tours, my studio at 616 S. 9th Street will be open on Saturday & Sunday, October 14th & 15th. Many other participating studios, galleries, and cafes in the immediate neighborhood will be open. Hope you can stop by!
Two Penn Center Exhibit
I continue to maintain a revolving display of artwork by myself as well as other select artists (mostly PAFA alumni) in the lobby of 2 Penn Center at 15th & JFK Blvd. (just south of the "LOVE" statue). All artwork in this exhibit is available for purchase. Look for current and upcoming displays of work by Paul Reuther, Mark Campana, Jeff Dion, and myself. The exhibit is accessible Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm.
